As you’ve read previously, I dyed my hair purple, just for ‘kicks and giggles’. (What can I say…I LOVE Purple!)
Well, I have found that a lot of people are ‘put off’ by people who are “different”. And it got me thinking tonight,… Why is it that people think different is bad?
It was interesting to see the reactions of people around me; strangers, people I see now and then, my friends, and even family.
Close friends of mine smile ear to ear, and say “Groovy”! THEY KNOW ME!
I am the same person that I was 2 weeks ago in EVERY way,(only with tinted purple hair) yet I get people staring at me, or avoiding eye contact, or avoiding me altogether! (seriously!)
It has been a HUGE learning experience for me! I didn’t suddenly become a "rebel"or become an ‘off the wall radical’ or something! Honestly… I just LOVE the color Purple! If I could, I’d have purple contacts! And all my cloths would be Fun BRIGHT Funky colors (probably tie dyed)
So, why is this a bad thing?
There are many amazing colors in this world, and our hair is so very limited! I’m not saying that natural hair color isn’t stunning, & radiant on its own! But, why not have a little fun & silliness now and then?
I have never seen a scripture that says “Thou salt not color thy hair in un-natural colors”. Have you?
People, in general, are FAR TOO JUDGMENTAL ! It’s just human nature!
There are so many people who think they know who a person is just by a single glance, or one conversation!
Whether it be people of different race/background, religion, clothing styles, home decor, body piercings, or… Hair color!
Can someone honestly say they know what a person is like by how they look?
NO!
I’m sorry, but we need to have much more tolerance in this world!
It’s our differences that make this world fun and beautiful!
I keep thinking that everyone now days is tolerant to people of all different back grounds, but I still hear people make racist comments! I just can’t imagine judging a person because of the color of his skin!
I thought that was over years ago!
Come on People!
We recently watched a great movie called “Gifted Hands”. It was a Great show! It was about an African American boy growing up in the sixties, and all the racism combined with a little “learning differences” that made life for one little boy very challenging! And despite all the crap, this young boy, who started elementary school getting D’s and F’s, ended up being worlds BEST brain surgeon!
Imagine what would have happened if he was denied the right to go to school… there are SO many people’s lives that he has done miracles for!
Imagine if a persons race, or religion prevented them from getting a college education, and that person could have been the one to discover a cure for cancer… or a brilliant inventor that could change peoples lives?
So, I want everyone to take some time this week and think about the differences that make this nation, and this world a “Groovy” place!
Let our differences bring us together, make us stronger, and help us form new friendships!
(Check it out….a tie-dye piano!!!!)
So,… here I am, on my soap-box, rambling on and on. I’m just trying to say that we should not judge or treat a person differently because of our differences!
We all need to look past our differences, and see the beauty inside us all!
Jesus himself did not teach only to the rich, and righteous people. He taught the lowly & “unworthy”. Their nationality didn’t matter. He taught tolerance and love even to the “enemies” of the Jews.
What better example do we have then His?!
