Co-Op Starts
Posted by: Mrs. BonBon
On Tuesday the 6th, the girls and I started a Co-op group for home-schoolers.

I’ll try to explain what co-op is… in this case, its a home school community group that got together and decided they wanted to have a once a week gathering and let parents teach a variety of classes. They rented a building, and each family participating payed a small amount to go toward the building fund.
There have been a very diverse range of classes taught! Last fall my girls were in 1 class, and it was called “Boom whackers”. That was an adorable class, where they learned to play with percussion pipe type instruments, while learning beats, rhythm and new fun songs.

The purpose behind co-op is to set up a fun, safe environment where they can learn new things in interesting ways, from someone other then mom, and having class mates to work with and play with.

So, this year my girls signed up for all 3 hours, instead of just the one.

Savannah is taking:
Map it (deals with map making and geography)
Cultures (learning about different countries and how they live, their languages, etc. )
Potpourri (which is a craft class)

Kiera is taking:
Sign language
Games (were kids get an hour to play many kinds of board games)
Habitats (learning about animals and their different homes)

They had Such a wonderful time after their first day, they couldn’t stop talking about it on the way home! It was just Wonderful!
There are about 12 kids in each class, and they even had some friends in their classes, so they were extra STOKED!

And this year, I actually volunteered to teach a class for the age group that is 3-6 years (they call that “The littles class”)

So, I named my class “Groovin to the music” (Great name huh!) haha
I brought my guitar, a folder of kids songs, and I was fortunate enough to SCORE a few sets of kids instruments for REALLY cheep off of Targets online store!! I was SO Excited about that!

My class went pretty well for never really officially teaching that before for kids I didn’t know. But they all seemed to enjoy it!

They got to take the instruments and march around a table while singing “She’ll be coming around the mountain”. They ALL seemed to love being able to get up and move while playing and singing!

We also sang “An Austrian went yodeling”
Which is a Very fun kids song, I’ve been doing this one for years with my kids! They LOVE it!

I was just delighted at how well it went! :)

Although,… I think I need to expand my collection of kids fun songs….
Can I get EVERYONE’S advise on kids songs??? (I mean Everyone) If you have a song from your childhood, or one you sing now with your kids, or one they learned at school, Please share!

Just leave me feedback, PLEASE!!!!
Thanks everyone

Hope everyone is having a nice time trying to get back into the swing of things after the holidays!
