It was about a 3 mile walk.
We were part of a “team”, so we got T-shirts that said “Heidi’s Hero’s” on them. They were made by a lady named Heidi, who has MS, and who also participated in the walk.
We met the others in our group there, and got Team pictures with the whole group that came for Heidi’s Hero’s.
We also got lots of goodies! People were handing out free doughnuts, bagels, drinks of all kinds, and more!
It was Really groovy to see how many people were there to participate! It was actually a bit overwhelming! (in an “awe struck” kind of way)
And it was really fun to see all the dogs that people brought to walk! Some of them even had their team shirts on them! It was So cool!
There was a great dane there that standing on all 4’s was as tall as Savannah was!!!! THAT was a Freeking small horse! I even saw Very small dogs all dressed up, hats & cloths, that had their very own stroller to sit in while their owners walked! LOL it was Cute!
I even found several people who had mini Dachshunds. It made me wish I knew that I could have brought my dogs!
It really was fun seeing all the many varieties of dogs and their owners! The girls were Very excited about the dogs, they asked to pet each one! haha
Ok, so we started out our walk at the Gateway, and headed north up by the base of the mountain. There was a rest area there, where there were people with fruit, and drinks and chairs.
We rested there for a few minutes, then kept going.
It was a Very hard walk on me! My feet just didnt want to be there!
Part of it may have been my shoes, (which were air walks) but if I wore any other kind of shoes, my feet actually go numb! Due to my Fibro I also ached all over, but my feet were the worst, which didnt surprise me.
Savannah was a real trooper! She was ampted up about the whole thing! She wanted to be walking for most of it! We had brought our double stroller for when they got tired, and Kiera liked spending most her time in there! hehe
When we finally reached the finish line we were greeted by a crowed of what had to be cheer leaders, all of them cheering on those coming toward the finish line. They were not the only ones there cheering us on, along each side of the street were people holding signs. As I read them I felt very touched! Some of which said things like: “Diagnosed 2003. Thanks for walking”.
That really hit me hard!! I really felt good about doing the walk, even though my feet were ready to go on strike!
As we crossed the line we were all given medals to wear around our necks.
This was such a good experience for all of us! I am ampted up about participating in more!
I signed up to do a walk-a-thon for Childhood Cancer, which is next month. I’ll post more about it when I know more.
