Overconfident Dork Fish MD's
Posted by: SuperBonBon
Have you ever gone to the doctor for something, and they treat you as if you are a child, or as if you know NOTHING because you are not am MD?
I HATE THAT!!!!!!!!!!
Just because someone has a degree, it does not mean those of us without it are “lame in the membrane” and therefore should be treated as incompetent.

Today I took Savannah into her Pediatrician, because I have been concerned about why Savannah has had achy shoulders, neck and back since before she had her tonsils out.
Every night her shoulders hurt worse, and she has a hard time going to sleep cause its So uncomfortable for her to lay there.
So, I finally decided it wasn’t going away on its own, and I started fearing that she has fibromyalgia like me.

So I took her in, and told the nurse the reason for the visit was to check for fibromyalgia.
The doctor came in, and the first thing she said was “Savannah wants to be like her mother” (she knows I have fibro, from previous visits when we’d talked about it)
So even before she had a chance to talk to me about her symptoms, or get a simple touch pressure point exam she had a pre-diagnosis in her head. I could quickly tell that she was not going to change her mind.

She took her stethoscope and had her breathing in and out as she put it all over her back and shoulder area.
Then she told me it was a touch test, and she touched me “as hard” as she had touched her. (which didn’t hurt even my tender body)
So, she just said that she needs more exercise. She showed us some shoulder and back stretches and exercises, and sent us on our way.
I think the exercises are totally a good idea! It is suppose to help my condition, so we’re totally going to be picking up more physical activities.

I have no degree, but I happen to know that my daughter would not be pretending to hurt EVERY NIGHT, and during the day, for months and months JUST to pretend to be like mommy.
In my opinion the doctor who thinks that, should be cursed with Fibromyalgia and sent to doctors JUST LIKE THEM! Then they can bounce around from doctor to doctor, having each one tell them “its all in their head” and see just HOW REAL IT IS!!!!
(Wow…I think that was me Ranting and Raving!)

I’m not saying I think Savannah has fibro,(I’m PRAYING she doesn’t) I’m just saying doctors should NEVER walk into a room with a diagnosis when there has not even been a chance to find out whats going on.
That’s an overconfident Dork Fish, in my opinion!

To me, a truly GOOD doctor has an open mind, and the time to truly listen to the patient! My doctor that diagnosed my FM, he ROCKS! I told him about something I was using that was a homeopathic for my IBS and his reaction was “Wow, I’ve never heard of that, how do you spell it?” And he wrote it down and said he was going to check it out, because he is always looking for ways to help people. And if it worked for me, it might work for someone else he treats!
Now THAT is a GOOD doctor!!!!! Not so absorbed in his self righteousness that he is above learning from an “uneducated” person!
After all, having a degree does not determine one’s intelligence or abilities.

So, long story short…(TO LATE) we’ll be exercising more, and I will probably be getting a second opinion.

…ok, I think I have vented enough.
Have a great day! ;)
